One of the most anticipated theme park openings in over a decade is finally here. On May 22, 2025, Universal Orlando Resort officially opens the gates to Epic Universe, its fourth full-scale theme park and the centerpiece of an unprecedented expansion that redefines what guests can expect from a day at a theme park.
With five immersive lands, cutting-edge attractions, and an ambitious mix of fantasy, technology, and storytelling, Epic Universe is already being compared to the original openings of Islands of Adventure and even the grand reveal of Galaxy’s Edge. But this isn’t just another addition to the Universal lineup—it’s a game-changer.
Here’s everything you need to know about Epic Universe, what to expect when you visit, and how it fits into the ever-evolving Orlando vacation landscape.
What Is Epic Universe?
Epic Universe is Universal’s boldest creative undertaking to date—a full-day park designed from the ground up to immerse guests in distinct, story-driven worlds, all connected through a central space called Celestial Park. Unlike traditional park layouts, Epic Universe uses a hub-and-spoke design, allowing visitors to flow outward from the center into self-contained lands. Each land is more than a themed area—it’s a universe of its own, with signature attractions, character interactions, dining, retail, and detail-packed environments that rival anything Disney or Universal has done before.
Celestial Park: The Heart of the Universe
At the center of the park is Celestial Park, a sprawling open space that feels like a futuristic garden meets fantasy city square. Think interactive fountains, illuminated pathways, and kinetic sculptures. It’s here you’ll find two of the park’s first attractions:
- Stardust Racers – A high-speed, dual-launch coaster that sends guests soaring through a constellation-inspired course. It’s thrilling, but also visually stunning, and the ride experience is smoother and more fluid than anything in Universal’s current coaster lineup.
- Constellation Carousel – A modern reimagining of the classic carousel, this ride features constellations come to life with floating, rotating, glowing animal figures.
Celestial Park is also home to the Helios Grand Hotel, a luxury hotel situated inside the park gates. Guests staying here can literally walk out of their rooms and into the central hub, making this one of the most premium theme park accommodations in the U.S.
Explore the Five Themed Worlds

Each land in Epic Universe is sealed off from the others with dramatic entrances—tunnels, portals, or transitions that completely block your view of other areas, increasing the feeling of total immersion. Here’s what awaits in each world:
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
Fans of the Wizarding World will recognize this new area as a deep dive into the Fantastic Beasts era, set in 1920s Paris and centered around the Ministry of Magic.
- Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry – A massive dark ride combining real sets, screen-based effects, and live-action elements. Guests follow Newt Scamander and his creatures through a chaotic battle beneath the streets of Paris.
- Themed dining includes Le Cirque Arcanus, a magical circus-style restaurant with show elements built into the dining room.
- Guests can also shop for wands, explore magical alleyways, and take part in interactive spellcasting zones.
This version of the Wizarding World leans into the grandeur of architecture, secrets behind the Ministry’s doors, and immersive storytelling that expands on the Potter universe in unexpected ways.
Super Nintendo World
Epic Universe brings Super Nintendo World stateside in a massive expansion of the land already seen in Japan and California—with more attractions, more interactivity, and an entirely new area.
- Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge – An augmented reality racing experience that puts you in the driver’s seat of your own kart, competing against Bowser in dynamic, moving courses.
- Yoshi’s Adventure – A kid-friendly ride that lets you travel through the Mushroom Kingdom on a gentle tour with playful scenery and colorful animatronics.
- Donkey Kong Country: Mine-Cart Madness – Exclusive to Epic Universe, this coaster simulates classic mine-cart track jumps using a cutting-edge “boom coaster” design where your vehicle appears to leap gaps in the track.
- Guests can interact with the land using Power-Up Bands, collecting digital coins, battling bosses, and unlocking secrets.
There are themed eateries like Toadstool Cafe, retail locations that look straight out of the games, and character meet-and-greets with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong.
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
Welcome to the Viking village of Berk, where guests are invited to soar with dragons, train like warriors, and explore the world of Hiccup and Toothless.
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders – A family coaster simulating a dragon-riding experience with sweeping views over the land.
- Fyre Drill – An interactive boat ride where guests help Viking trainees fight back a fiery dragon invasion with onboard water cannons.
- The Untrainable Dragon – A live stunt and effects show that combines storytelling, puppetry, and projection to bring dragon taming to life.
Isle of Berk also includes hands-on areas for kids to climb, explore, and “train” like dragon riders, plus the rustic Mead Hall, a full-service restaurant with Viking-inspired fare.
Dark Universe
This gothic, fog-filled land pays homage to Universal’s classic monsters, offering a rich, atmospheric space that combines old-school horror with new technology.
- Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment – A headline dark ride where guests are caught in a disastrous experiment to revive and contain Frankenstein’s monster (and other creatures that don’t want to stay put).
- Curse of the Werewolf – A twisting launch coaster through the forest where riders flee from a werewolf attack.
- Dining options include Das Stakehaus, a vampire-run meat-centric tavern, and The Burning Blade, a fiery bar experience with monster-themed cocktails.
Dark Universe leans into immersive scares, but it’s not a haunted house—it’s story-forward and cinematic, like stepping into a modernized monster movie.
