Disney News Weekly Roundup – June 12, 2025

By Happily Ever After Hours

We’re back! After an unforgettable Disney honeymoon full of food, fun, and Florida sunshine, Sara and I have returned recharged, re-inspired, and ready to share all the latest updates from Walt Disney World—and beyond.

We had an incredible time golfing at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course, savoring every bite of our dinner at STK in Disney Springs, and yes—we even made time to explore the newly opened Epic Universe at Universal Orlando (and it absolutely lives up to the hype). Now that we’re home and back to reality, it’s time to dive into everything new happening in the Disney travel world this week. Here is this week’s “Weekly Round-Up”, be on the lookout for our awesome Honeymoon articles coming soon!

A New “Cars”-Themed Land Is Coming to Magic Kingdom

One of the biggest announcements in recent memory is the transformation of a large portion of Frontierland into Piston Peak National Park, a land inspired by the world of Cars and Planes: Fire & Rescue. This ambitious expansion is set to debut on July 7, 2025, and will introduce two new attractions, including an off-road rally ride that places you in the driver’s seat of a high-energy Cars adventure.

Designed to evoke the feel of a majestic national park, this new land will feature rugged trails, a massive lodge-style structure, and towering rock formations that pay tribute to the American West. In preparation for the expansion, Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat have permanently closed. Longtime fans may feel a twinge of nostalgia—but there’s no denying the excitement brewing around this evolution of Magic Kingdom’s layout.

As someone who visited Disney Springs just days ago, it’s clear that Disney is shifting into high gear—literally and figuratively—for this next chapter.

Extended Evening Hours Head to Animal Kingdom

Beginning in late August, Extended Evening Hours will move from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom, offering guests staying at Deluxe Resorts and other participating hotels exclusive access to the park after dark.

This is especially exciting because Animal Kingdom at night is a completely different experience: Pandora – The World of Avatar glows with bioluminescence, the Tree of Life Awakenings projection show dazzles, and attractions like Expedition Everest and Flight of Passage take on a whole new feel after sunset.

It’s also a quieter, more peaceful way to enjoy a park that often feels packed during the daytime. If you’re planning a trip later this summer or into fall, this might be the perfect opportunity to book a Deluxe Resort and take advantage of some added value—and lower crowds.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique’s “Magical” Lice Checks Go Viral

This week, a video on TikTok made waves after revealing that Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique cast members conduct subtle lice and scalp checks before every makeover. While Disney hasn’t officially commented, parents online are applauding the discreet, princess-themed approach that keeps both hygiene and dignity intact.

The stylist reportedly used a wand-like tool to “check for magical energy,” giving kids a fun distraction while quickly inspecting their scalp. If needed, guests are kindly redirected or rescheduled. It’s a thoughtful system that shows how Disney continues to balance guest safety with showmanship—even in the most unexpected ways.

As someone who just visited several resorts and saw dozens of Bibbidi Bobbidi guests twirling around in tulle, I can confirm: the sparkle is alive and well.

Construction Progress Continues Around the Resort

During our honeymoon, we saw several construction zones in person—and the progress is moving fast. The new Disney Lakeshore Lodge, a DVC resort overlooking Bay Lake, now stands nine stories tall, with exterior detailing and roof work beginning. The finished resort is expected to offer sleek lakeside views with modern amenities, adding a fresh option for those wanting a quieter, upscale experience.

Over at EPCOT, Test Track remains under refurbishment, with construction walls removed but updates still ongoing. The ride is being reimagined in collaboration with Chevrolet and is expected to blend futuristic design with nods to the original World of Motion attraction. While we didn’t get to ride it this time around, we’re keeping an eye on reopening announcements.

Summer Offers and Events You Shouldn’t Miss

We lucked out on some perfect weather during our June visit—and you can too, with a bit of planning. Here are a few promotions and events currently running or coming soon:

  • H2O Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon – A neon-lit nighttime water park party happening Friday nights all summer long.
  • Disney After Hours (Hollywood Studios) – Limited-capacity nights offering short waits and included snacks, perfect for avoiding daytime heat.
  • Up to 30% off summer room rates at Disney Resort hotels through July 31 (and again from August 1 to October 11).
  • Annual Passholder discounts of up to 40% off select resort stays, making this a great time for return travelers.

Over at Disney Springs: New Flavors and Fan-Favorite Finds

We couldn’t leave Disney without one last indulgence—and for us, that meant dinner at STK Orlando in Disney Springs. The vibe was lively, the drinks were spot-on, and the steak? Worth every bite.

Also new this month: Gideon’s Bakehouse has released its Mint Cookies & Cream Cookie, joining their limited-edition June rotation. Add that to the freshly launched Starbucks park icon mugs and a wave of new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure merchandise arriving across the Springs.

Even if you’re not doing a full park day, an evening at Disney Springs still delivers big time.

Final Thoughts

Coming off our honeymoon and stepping right back into Disney news has been the best kind of transition. From epic park expansions (both Disney and Universal), to thoughtful touches like discreet Bibbidi Boutique updates, it’s clear that the parks continue to evolve in creative, guest-first ways.

If you’re planning your summer or fall trip, let Chelsea and Jen help you navigate the shifting schedule, the construction zones, and the perks you might not know you’re missing. We’ll be back soon with more content, more guides, and—yes—more snacks to review.

Until then, keep dreaming, keep planning, and we’ll see you real soon.
